OpenBuildings™ Station Designer Help

To Import Joists

  1. Select ( New from ISM Repository ) from the ribbon.

    The ISM Import dialog appears.

  2. From the ISM Import dialog menu bar, select File > Open, and navigate to the ISM repository file containing the joists you want to import. Select and open the ISM repository file.
Note: The joists contained in the ISM repository were likely created originally in an application such as RAM Structural Systems. Bentley Structural Synchronizer (ISM) data exchange capabilities coupled with the OpenBuildings Station Designer ISM link ensure joists from all participating ISM Structural design applications can be imported, manipulated, and exported back to the originating application’s joist tools via ISM.
  3. Continue with the ISM Import dialog. Select the Structural Type None, and change the Instance mapping to Bar Joist Envelope.
  4. From the ISM Import dialog menu bar select Settings > Joist Settings.

The Joist Settings dialog appears. It is used to create DataGroup type and instance mappings for the detailed joist members to be imported along with the joist envelope member.

  5. While in the Joist Settings dialog, ensure the DataGroup type and instance mappings are the correct ones. Joist Settings dialog defaults, Steel Beam : Bar Joist Envelope and Steel Beam : Bar Joist Member are predefined mappings that are provided as an out-of-the-box solution.
  6. Press OK.

The DataGroup mappings are saved, and the Joist Settings dialog closes.

  7. Continue with the ISM Import dialog. Press Import.

The ISM Import dialog closes and a progress bar appears.

  8. Accept all the changes listed on the Update Design Results dialog (appears during Import process).

    The ISM repository is imported.

  9. (Optional) Select (Modify Properties) from the ribbon.

You are prompted to select a joist to modify.
